The evening
The band that played every wedding in the county, and at least four weddings for one family, is playing its last one tonight: the wedding of a couple who were the ring bearer and flower girl at a wedding the band played when they were seven. Over dinner, Ray calls the four couples up to re-do their first dances, and each time the room slips into that era. The band is real, and it plays live.
How your guests take part
Your guests are guests at the reception. They get a card to help them play the part of a guest of one of the previous wedding couples. Each card will also have a task for the guest to complete. None of this is required. The guest can just sit back and watch, but the show is much better if they participate. Nobody is ever put on the spot. There’s plenty of dancing for anyone who wants to participate.
The details
| When | Any week from January 7 to June 30, 2027. Two to four performances, or more if you think you can sell them: usually Friday night, Saturday night, a Sunday matinee and Sunday night, or Thursday, Friday, Saturday and a Sunday matinee. Valentine’s weekend, February 12 to 14, books first come, first served, and needs four performances: see Ray as a Valentine’s fundraiser. |
| Venue | Anywhere you would hold a wedding reception, set for 100 to 140 guests a performance, with room for a four-piece band and a dance floor. The band brings its own sound system. |
| The meal | Your own caterer, or ours. Using ours means the show and the caterer work closely together on serving times. Ours serves a staffed wedding buffet just like they had back in the late 1990s: several meats, sides, salads, bread and dessert. |
| Your cast | We bring the band, four professional Nashville musicians, plus Ray and three actors, one of whom stage-manages. The remaining parts are cast with you: local actors we find, your own members, or a mix. |
| Guests wear | Whatever you’d wear to a wedding reception. Dressing for a late 1990s wedding reception is welcome but never required. Just remember, it’s rude to wear white to a wedding. |
| Tickets | Sold online through our ticketing company, and the money goes straight into your organization’s account. |
| Music | Played live by the band. We walk you through any music licenses your venue needs. |
| The Playbook | Over 150 pages, written for this show. |
